Dawn of a New Day, by Matthew Evan-Taylor, represents the composer’s remarkable ability to evoke atmosphere through sound. A Middlebury College professor, he increasingly composes music that reflects the turbulence of American life.

Duplicity, a string quartet by Anjna Swaminathan, weaves aspects of South Indian classical melodic and rhythmic vocabulary into the string quartet form. She was inspired by her mother, who engaged, she says, in "cultural duplicity" by shapeshifting between cultural, linguistic and traditional spaces.

String Quintet, Op 29, by Ludwig van Beethoven, the master composer’s only work written for the unusual combination of a string quintet.

About the series:

Orchestra of St. Luke’s: Composers of Note

Orchestra of St. Luke's returns to The Streicker Center for their 41st – 44th concerts, with four unique programs that bring together favorite works from the Classical era and music by living composers. Many of the latter composers have been championed in recent seasons through OSL’s Music in Color initiative.
